About the Alberta Compensation Disclosure

Published by the Government of Alberta under the PSCTA

What is the Compensation Disclosure?

Alberta's public sector compensation disclosure is governed by the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act (PSCTA), which came into force in 2015. The Act requires public sector bodies to disclose the compensation of employees earning $125,000 or more per year, as well as all members of boards of directors regardless of the amount they receive.

The PSCTA was introduced to increase transparency around executive and senior-level pay in Alberta's broader public sector. Unlike Ontario's Sunshine List which covers all government employees above $100,000, Alberta's disclosure focuses specifically on public sector bodies — agencies, boards, and commissions — rather than core government ministry employees.

Who is Included?

The disclosure covers employees and board members of Alberta's public sector bodies, including:

  • Agencies, boards, and commissions (ABCs)
  • Post-secondary institutions (universities, colleges, polytechnics)
  • Alberta Health Services and other health entities
  • School boards and education bodies
  • Crown corporations
  • Other designated public sector bodies

Important: Core Government of Alberta ministry employees are not included in this disclosure. The PSCTA applies specifically to public sector bodies, not to the provincial civil service itself. This means ministers, deputy ministers, and regular government department staff are covered under separate disclosure rules.

For employees, the threshold is $125,000 or more in total compensation. For board members, all compensation is disclosed regardless of amount.

What Information is Disclosed?

For each qualifying individual, the disclosure includes:

  • Base salary — regular salary or wages
  • Overtime — overtime pay earned
  • Bonuses — performance or other bonuses
  • Other compensation — allowances, benefits in kind, and other taxable amounts
  • Total compensation — the sum of all categories above
  • Severance — termination or severance payments (reported separately)

Data Retention

Alberta's compensation disclosure data is subject to a retention policy. Disclosures are typically available for approximately five years from the date of publication. Older data may be removed from the government's website as new years are published. This site preserves historical data as it becomes available, but coverage is limited to the years that have been publicly released.
