AB Compensation Disclosure

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Alberta Compensation Disclosure and this site.

What is the Alberta Compensation Disclosure?
The Alberta Compensation Disclosure is an annual report required by the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act (PSCTA). Public sector bodies must disclose compensation for employees earning $125,000 or more and for all board members regardless of amount.
Who is included in the Alberta Compensation Disclosure?
The disclosure covers employees and board members of public sector bodies including agencies, boards, commissions, post-secondary institutions, Alberta Health Services, school boards, and Crown corporations. Core Government of Alberta ministry employees are NOT included — they are covered under separate disclosure rules.
What is the compensation threshold?
Employees must earn $125,000 or more in total compensation to be included. Board members are disclosed regardless of the amount they receive. This threshold is higher than Ontario's $100,000 Sunshine List threshold.
What types of compensation are reported?
The disclosure includes base salary, overtime, bonuses, other compensation (allowances and benefits in kind), severance, and total compensation. This provides a more detailed picture than Ontario's two-category system (salary and taxable benefits).
Why aren't government ministry employees included?
The PSCTA specifically applies to public sector bodies (agencies, boards, and commissions), not to the core provincial civil service. Government of Alberta ministry employees, including ministers and deputy ministers, are covered under different transparency requirements.
How far back does the data go?
Alberta's compensation disclosure data is subject to a retention policy of approximately five years. The government may remove older disclosures from their website as new years are published. This site preserves data as it becomes available.
Why does someone have high severance?
High severance typically indicates a contract termination, retirement package, or organizational restructuring during the reporting period. Severance is reported separately from regular compensation.
How often is the data updated?
Public sector bodies are required to post their disclosure annually. The data is updated on this site when new disclosures are released by the Alberta government.
How do I find a specific person?
Use the Data Explorer to search by first or last name. You can also filter by employer, sector, year, and salary range.
Is this site affiliated with the Government of Alberta?
No. This is an independent tool for exploring the publicly available compensation disclosure data. The data is sourced from the Alberta government's publications and updated when new data is released.
Do you have data for other provinces?
Yes! This site also hosts Ontario Sunshine List data (3.2+ million records from 1996 to 2025) and Newfoundland & Labrador compensation data. Visit the Ontario or NL sections to explore.
